HC Deb 22 December 1997 vol 303 cc394-5W
Dr. Julian Lewis

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will list those Government Ministers with apartments in Admiralty House; if he will estimate the cost to the Exchequer of providing this accommodation to Ministers; what factors require Ministers to occupy these apartments; and if he will set out the basis on which they have been allocated to individual Ministers. [21760]

Dr. David Clark

The following Ministers are currently occupying apartments in Admiralty house:

  • Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions
  • President of the Board of Trade
  • Secretary of State for Defence

The cost to the Exchequer for 1996–97, the last full year for which figures are available was £407,300.

Under long-standing arrangements, the allocation of these apartments is in the gift of the Prime Minister.
