HC Deb 19 December 1997 vol 303 c374W
Mrs. May

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what advice his Department has given to butchers and local authorities responsible for waste collection on the disposal of waste cattle bones from butchers' shops following the ban on the sale of beef on the bone. [21139]

Mr. Rooker

[holding answer 16 December 1997]: In response to inquiries from butchers and local authorities, the Department's officials have advised that bones are not classified as Specified Risk Material (SRM) under the Beef Bones Regulations 1997, and can be disposed of in accordance with Part II of Schedule I to the Animal By Products Order 1992. Arrangements for actual disposal are a commercial matter between individual butchers and those who collect their waste.
