§ Dr. BrandTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what factors underlie the acute bed admission assumptions392W made by the University Hospital Trust in Birmingham for the next year. [21429]
§ Mr. MilburnAssumptions will be based on projected activity resulting from contracts placed by health authorities and general practitioners with the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust which will decide what level of services will be required for next year. It is anticipated that activity will be broadly the same as this year.
§ Dr. Brandto ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will estimate the number of acute beds at the University Hospital Trust in Birmingham for(a) 1997–98, (b) 1998–99 and (c) 1999–2000. [21431]
§ Mr. MilburnThere are currently 1,100 beds in the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust. There are no plans to alter this number significantly. There may be fluctuations around 1,100 either up or down based on the time of year or commissioning requirements.
