HC Deb 19 December 1997 vol 303 c359W
Mr. Gordon Prentice

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what plans he has, as a way of protecting the rural environment, further to tax fertilisers, pesticides and other products applied to the land. [21105]

Dawn Primarolo

I have been asked to reply.

The consultation document, "Economic Instrument for Water Pollution", issued by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions on 27 November, invited responses on a number of options to reduce water pollution. One of these options is a tax or charge on pesticides or fertilisers.
