HC Deb 19 December 1997 vol 303 cc340-1W
Mr. Maude

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what estimate he has made of the cost of the project to develop his Department's corporate identity strategy; and how many officials from his Department it will involve. [21113]

Mr. Chris Smith

To date, there has been no expenditure on the Department's corporate identity strategy, which is being developed with the assistance of the Design Council.

The current estimate of the costs to develop and implement the Department's corporate identity strategy is £79,000.

Elements of these costs will be off-set against:

  1. on-going departmental projects (eg IiP).
  2. efficiency savings arising from the project. These savings cannot at present be precisely estimated, but are expected to be substantial.

CDT have been appointed to work with the Department on the strategy and a final contract is being negotiated with them to take the process forward in parallel with the Departmental Spending Review.

The exercise is expected to involve wide consultation with Departmental staff and a Steering Group, including staff representatives, has been set up.
