§ Mr. Malcolm BruceTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if his Department's estimates of the total costs of resolving the millennium compliance problem include costs relating to the embedded chip problem; and if he will make a statement. [21569]
§ Mr. Dewar[holding answer 18 December 1997]: My Department's estimates of the total costs of resolving the millennium compliance problem do not specifically include costs relating to the embedded chip problem. However, initial investigative work suggests that these costs are unlikely to be substantial and can be met from within existing budgets.
§ Mr. Malcolm BruceTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what millennium compliance problems have occurred to date in his(a) Department, (b) agencies and (c) other public bodies; and if he will make a statement. [21568]
§ Mr. Dewar[holding answer 18 December 1997]: To date there have been no reported millennium compliance problems in my Department or its Agencies. Action by other public bodies in Scotland is a matter for them as separate corporate entities, although my Department monitors Year 2000 compliance activity in the public sector in Scotland generally; no compliance problems have been reported to date. My Department has taken steps to ensure that public sector organisations in Scotland are aware of the actions necessary to address the problem and will continue to monitor progress.
