HC Deb 18 December 1997 vol 303 c325W
Mr. Hancock

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the average length of time that young people are remanded in the care of the local authority by courts. [20692]

Mr. Boateng

I have been asked to reply.

During the year ending 31 March 1996, the latest for which figures are available, young people spent an average of approximately 10 weeks on remand, or committed for trial or sentence, in the care of local authorities in England.
