HC Deb 18 December 1997 vol 303 cc296-7W
Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what proposals DENI has for further research on aspects of the Coopers and Lybrand report. [21231]

Mr. Worthington

The question of any further research on the issues raised in the Coopers and Lybrand Report on LMS formula funding will be considered further now that the interim proposals for 1998–99 have been finalised.

Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is DENI' s timetable for the implementation of full commonality in the LMS formula. [21228]

Mr. Worthington

The timetable for the implementation of full commonality in LMS funding formulae will be determined following further consultation and discussion with interested parties.

Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many full-time, non-teaching employees of the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools(a) there are currently and (b) there were in 1993–94. [21267]

Mr. Worthington

The information is as follows:

Number
Currently employed 48
Employed in 1993–94 34

Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what assessment she has made of the(a) Coopers and Lybrand report proposal that the social deprivation factor in the LMS formula should quantify objectively the extra costs likely to be incurred by schools in educating pupils from socially deprived backgrounds and (b) the cost per pupil of that proposal. [21230]

Mr. Worthington

No detailed assessment has yet been made of the Coopers and Lybrand proposals relating to social deprivation. Part of that assessment will be the availability of working criteria for the inter-related factor of educational need.

Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what proposals she has to introduce arrangements by which the views of controlled schools can be represented to her and to the DENI analogous to the arrangements available to the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools. [21308]

Mr. Worthington

Adequate arrangements are already in place to ensure that the views of schools of all types can be represented to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State and to the Department of Education in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many principals and vice-principals of maintained schools who took early retirement from teaching, are currently employed, full-time or part-time by the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools. [21269]

Mr. Worthington

Two former principals who took early retirement are currently employed on a full-time basis by the Council.

Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when the perceived religious affiliations of non-teaching employees of the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools were last monitored by the FEC. [21266]

Mr. Ingram

In common with all other specified Public Authorities the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS) is required to monitor the religious composition of its workforce on an annual basis. The CCMS last monitored the perceived community background of its non-teaching employees on 1 January 1997. This information will be publishing in March 1998.

Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what are the perceived religious affiliations of present, non-teaching employees, of the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools. [21268]

Mr. Ingram

The latest published monitoring information is contained in the FEC's Seventh Annual Monitoring Report (March 1997). That document shows that at 1 January 1996, the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools had 40 employees of whom less than 10 were determined as being from the Protestant community.
