HC Deb 18 December 1997 vol 303 cc320-1W
Mr. Rooney

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if she will estimate the percentage of women retiring in(a) 1998, (b) 2015, (c) 2035 and (d) 2045 who will be entitled to a full category A retirement pension. [20808]

Mr. Denham

[holding answer 15 December 1997]: The information is not available in the format requested. Such information as is available is set out in the table.

The pensions review is one of the Government's key priorities. As part of the review we will be looking at ways to narrow the pensions gap between men and women so as to give women more security in retirement. We are also seeking to raise awareness of pensions issues.

As at September 1997, of women who are aged 60 within the previous year and are in receipt of any Retirement Pension, 15 per cent. are in receipt of a full Category A Retirement Pension. Projections in the same form for future years are not available.
