HC Deb 18 December 1997 vol 303 c307W
30. Mr. Clifton-Brown

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what recent representations she has received on minimum wage proposals. [19901]

Mr. Ian McCartney

The Government have received a number of representations on our plans to introduce a national minimum wage.

35. Mr. Paterson

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if she will make a statement on exemptions to the national minimum wage. [19906]

Mr. Ian McCartney

We plan to introduce a national minimum wage which does not differentiate by area, sector of employment, size of undertaking or by occupation. The Low Pay Commission has been asked to make recommendations about the possibility of exempting or applying a different rate to those aged under 26.
