HC Deb 18 December 1997 vol 303 cc266-7W
Mr. Sutcliffe

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the case of Mr. Mohammid Fazal who has applied for a visa to become a teacher at the Jarim Islamia Rizwia Mosque, Bradford; and what factors underlie the delays in processing his application. [21500]

Mr. Fatchett

My noble Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Baroness Symons, sent a letter to my hon. Friend about this case on 17 December.

Mr. Rooney

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when a decision will be made on the application for entry clearance by Arshad Khan at Islamabad High Commission, ref. D8342. [21532]

Mr. Fatchett

The Entry Clearance Officer at Islamabad authorised the issue of a settlement visa to Mr. Khan on 9 December. The Migration and Visa Correspondence Unit wrote to my hon. Friend on 16 December to inform him of this decision.

Mr. Sutcliffe

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the case of Nasim Akhtar who has applied for a permit to join her husband Mr. Mohammed Iqbal of Mountbatten Court, Bradford; and what factors underlie the delay in processing this application. [21501]

Mr. Fatchett

Inquiries made in response to earlier representations from my hon. Friend show that there is no trace of an application from Mrs. Akhtar at the British High Commission at Islamabad.

Mr. Rooney

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when the application for entry clearance by Mohammed Aurangyeb, Islamabad ref. IMM/D7004, was referred to the Home Office for further inquiries; what is the nature of those inquiries; and when he expects them to be completed and a decision made. [21531]

Mr. Fatchett

We have asked our High Commission in Islamabad to provide a detailed account of the position. My noble Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Baroness Symons, will write to my hon. Friend within one week of receiving that account.
