HC Deb 18 December 1997 vol 303 c265W
Mr. Gale

To ask the Prime Minister what plans the Government has during the United Kingdom presidency of the European Union to secure the survey promised by the Commission of the potential number of job losses that will arise from the ending of the trade in duty free goods. [21165]

The Prime Minister

[holding answer 16 December 1997]: The Government have no plans to use the UK presidency to press for a Commission survey. However, the UK will not stand in the way of any proposal for a Commission study particularly if this were to also examine the nature of any successor regime to duty free.
