HC Deb 18 December 1997 vol 303 cc272-3W
Mr. Stringer

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions for what reasons his Department did not allow Air Jamaica rights to operate passenger flights to Manchester Airport in 1996. [21538]

Ms Glenda Jackson

Air services negotiations between the UK and Jamaica were held in Kingston on 24–26 January 1996. The question of allowing Air Jamaica to operate services to Manchester was discussed at the negotiations, but no agreement was reached. The UK negotiators considered that the conditions which the Jamaican authorities were seeking to attach to the service would have damaged wider UK aviation interests. No representations have been made to the UK Government by Air Jamaica since those negotiations.
