§ Mr. GillTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food for what reasons there are no proposals in the CAP Agenda 2000 to pay premium on heifers bred for beef. [21199]
§ Mr. Rooker[holding answer 16 December 1997]The Commission's proposals for the reform of the CAP regime for beef build on existing measures for that sector. These have traditionally focused on male animals (through intervention and the Beef Special Premium) and on suckler cows. The Commission believes that, in providing additional support for suckler cows and with the introduction of a premium on dairy cows, it is proposing some support for heifer calves reared for beef.
