HC Deb 16 December 1997 vol 303 cc155-6W
Mr. Jenkins

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will conduct a review of the siting of verge safety fencing on trunk roads in Staffordshire. [20556]

Ms Glenda Jackson

I have asked the Chief Executive of the Highways Agency to reply to my hon. Friend.

Letter from Lawrie Haynes to Mr. Brian Jenkins, dated 16 December 1997: Glenda Jackson has asked me to reply to your recent question about conducting a review of the siting of verge safety fencing on trunk roads in Staffordshire. A review of verge safety fencing was already commissioned and we expect a report from our agents, Staffordshire County Council, in the early part of next year. As soon as we have had an opportunity to consider the recommendations I will write to you again to keep you informed. You may also be interested to learn that our programme for installing central reserve safety fencing on existing trunk roads is progressing well. Currently two further schemes are being installed in Staffordshire this financial year. One, on the A38 between Weeford and Bassett's Pole and the other along the A34 between Walton and Darlaston. I hope this is helpful.
