To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment (1) what provision there will be in the New Deal funds put up for bidding next year to colleges of further education for the consequent impact of those funds on current facilities and infrastructure; and if he will make a statement; [20087]

(2) what assessment he has made of the additional administrative responsibilities placed on current facilities and infrastructure in colleges of further education by the New Deal funds which are to be bid for next year; and if he will make a statement. [20114]

As my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State announced on 12 November 1997, FE colleges will have the opportunity to bid for well over £100 million of New Deal funds next year. I am confident of the sector's ability to rise to the challenge and contribute to the success of this programme.
