HC Deb 16 December 1997 vol 303 cc79-80W
Mr. Faber

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the status of the Falkland Islands is being considered as part of the Dependent Territories Review. [21202]

Mr. Tony Lloyd

The review of the Dependent Territories covers generic issues (such as nomenclature and constitutional status) relevant to all remaining DTs, including the Falkland Islands. Given the special factors which apply to the Falklands no individual review of their status is being carried out.

We are committed to upholding the right of the Falkland Islanders to remain British. We have no doubts about British sovereignty over the Falkland Islands and do not regard that sovereignty as negotiable.
