To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions how many driving licence holders have had their licences revoked under section 92 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 in each of the past five years. [21232]

The number of driving licences revoked on medical grounds for each of the last five years is as follows. The figures relate to great Britain (separate figures for Scotland are not available).

1992: 11,072

1993: 9,246

1994: 9,637

1995: 11,025

1996: 11,127

1997: 11,273 (to date).

The number of driving licences refused on medical grounds for each of the last five years is as follows. The figures relate to Great Britain—separate figures for Scotland are not available.

1992: 7,450

1993: 5,928

1994:5,911

1995: 5,602

1996: 6,365

1997: 6,381 (to date).

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions (1) how many driving licence holders who have had their licences revoked under section 92 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 have appealed under section 100 against the revocation of a licence in each of the last five years; [21233]
(2) how many persons who have applied for a driving licence and have had a licence refused under section 92 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 have appealed under section 100 against the refusal of a licence in each of the past five years. [21235]
