§ Mr. Darling[holding answer 11 December 1997]: The Chancellor's proposal for a Code for Fiscal Stability will commit the Government to a set of principles of fiscal policy management, transparent fiscal reporting and best-practice accounting methods. This open approach will allow the Treasury Committee to play an important role in the external scrutiny of the Government's fiscal policy.
