To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) what estimate he has made of the amount of officer time spent on negotiating Patient Transport Service contracts in the Mersey Regional Ambulance Service(a) in 1996–97 and (b) in the previous five years; [20110]

(2) what estimate he has made of the cost to the NHS of negotiating the Patient Transport Service contracts in the Mersey Regional Ambulance Service. [20111]
