HC Deb 09 December 1997 vol 302 c530W
Mr. McAllion

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if she will make a statement on the legal rights applicable to temporary workers who have been employed for less than two years. [19578]

Mr. Ian McCartney

All employees, whether temporary or not, have the same statutory rights, some of which depend on the length of service. Many employment rights apply as soon as an employee starts work, including protection against unlawful deductions from wages, against adverse treatment on grounds of sex, race, disability, trade union membership or non-membership or activities, or for taking specified types of action on health and safety grounds, and against dismissal for maternity-related reasons or for seeking to enforce statutory rights.
