HC Deb 09 December 1997 vol 302 c524W
Mr. Blizzard

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what research his Department has evaluated into the effect on wildlife of spraying potato crops with sulphuric acid. [19242]

Mr. Rooker

All pesticides are carefully evaluated and approval for marketing or use is given only if it is established that a given product can be used without unacceptable risks to people, wildlife and the wider environment.

The independent Advisory Committee on Pesticides reviewed the approval of sulphuric acid in October and recommended that use could continue subject to specific restrictions.
