HC Deb 09 December 1997 vol 302 c509W
Mr. Gordon Prentice

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what guidance he has given on the arrangements for determining which assets listed in the register of Government assets are surplus to requirements. [18651]

Mr. Darling

It is for each individual Department, as part of the Comprehensive Spending Review, to review its asset holdings as set out in the National Asset Register and decide whether they meet the Department's aims and objectives. If they do not, it is for Departments to decide the appropriate course of action in each case. The measures I announced on 24 November will give Departments the right incentives to do this.
