To ask the President of the Board of Trade (1) how many section 36 applications for permission to build and use gas-fired power stations are awaiting decision; [16535]

(2) what factors led her Department to approve BP's application to build a gas-fired power station at Baglan Bay; how long it took her Department to determine the application; and what has been the average time applications have taken to be determined since 1 May. [16524]

Mrs. Beckett

No decision has yet been made on the proposed power station at Baglan Bay. Following the announcement by my hon. Friend the Minister for Science, Energy and Industry on Wednesday 3 December, this is one of the 28 applications on which we propose to defer a decision until the work on the review has been completed.
