To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) how many bank and building society branches in(a) England and Wales and (b) Scotland were open in each year between 1979 and 1996; [19723]

(2) if she will list the number of open banks and building society branches in (a) England and Wales and (b) Scotland, together with the number and percentage rate of closed branches, broken down into the smallest available geographical areas, in each year between 1989 and 1996; [19724]

(3) how many bank and building society branches in Northern Ireland were open in each year between 1979 and 1996; [19721]
