§ Dr. GibsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will make a statement of Government policy on the use of waiver clauses in fixed-term contracts. [18630]
§ Mr. Ian McCartney[holding answer 2 December 1997]: I have been asked to reply.
The Government recognise that there may be circumstances where a job which is for a fixed specific period should not necessarily attract the same benefits on termination as apply where an open-ended contract is terminated. However, the Government are also aware that there may be cases where waiver clauses are abused and they condemn such abuse.
