HC Deb 04 December 1997 vol 302 cc300-1W
Mr. Fallon

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will investigate the circumstances in which the personal effects and valuables of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wigham of Swanley, Kent were not returned by the Egyptian authorities: what action the British Embassy in Cairo has been taking to secure their immediate return; and if he will issue a statement. [19003]

Mr. Fatchett

As soon as the Embassy heard that valuables were missing they asked the Egyptian authorities urgently to locate them. They have not yet found and the Embassy continue to press. The authorities released the luggage to the Embassy on 2 December. With Embassy assistance, the insurers will return it to the family immediately.
