§ Mr. RedwoodTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what is the Government's policy on the British coal industry. [18068]
§ Mrs. Beckett[holding answer 27 November 1997]: The Government's policy is to ensure secure, diverse and sustainable supplies of energy at competitive prices. I believe that the British coal industry can continue to make a significant contribution to meeting that objective. Since taking office, we have taken several steps to correct the bias against coal we inherited from the previous Administration.
