§ Mr. David DavisThe objectives of the European Union and the European Communities are not comparable with the purposes and principles of the United Nations. The objectives of the European Union are described in the preamble to the treaty on European Union and its opening articles, in particular articles A, B and F. The objectives of the European Communities are likewise set out in the preambles to the treaties establishing them and in their opening articles, in particular articles 2 and 3 of the EC treaty, articles 2 and 3 of the European Coal and Steel Community treaty, and articles 1 and 2 of the Euratom treaty.
