§ Mr. Greg KnightIn the UK, defence diversification is addressed specifically through the European Community initiative, Konver. One hundred and thirty-six mecu, £113 million, from the European structural funds has been allocated to the UK and Gibraltar Konver II programme, which runs until 1999, having recently been extended by two years.
116WUp to the end of September, some £16.6 million in structural funds grants were approved in the UK this year, of this, £4.3 million is for Scotland. This figure will be fully matched by national public expenditure.
