To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many beds in NHS trusts have been closed since 1 April with resource problems cited as the cause. [445]

Information on the average daily number of available beds in each national health service trust is published annually in "Bed availability for England", copies of which are available in the Library. Data for the 1995–96 financial year will be available shortly.
