HC Deb 28 October 1996 vol 284 c55W
Mr. Steen

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what assessment his Department has made of(a) the advantages and (b) disadvantages of the United Kingdom not re-negotiating the common fisheries policy when it next falls for renewal. [254]

Mr. Baldry

It is for the Council of Ministers to decide before 31 December 2002 on any necessary changes to the common fisheries policy. The only realistic course for the United Kingdom is to continue to play a full role in negotiating improvements to the CFP in the run-up to its renewal.
