asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will list the industrial and related financial assistance they have given over the last 10 years to (i) Scotland, (ii) Wales, (iii) Northern Ireland, and (iv) the individual regions of England.

The Industrial Development Act annual reports contain details of the financial assistance given by the Government under the Industrial Development Act 1982 in England, Scotland and Wales, including breakdowns by English region. These reports, the latest of which is for the year ended 31st March 1996, are laid before the House. Information on industrial financial assistance in Northern Ireland is given in the annual report and accounts of the Industrial Development Board for Northern Ireland and the annual report of the Local Enterprise Development Unit. The accounts of the Industrial Development Board are laid before the House. Details of the Government's support for science, engineering and technology in the United Kingdom as a whole are given in the report entitledForward look of Government funded Science, Engineering and Technology which is also laid before the House and is available in the Library of the House.
