HC Deb 17 October 1996 vol 282 c1123W
Mr. Sutcliffe

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage if she will make a statement on the advice given by the Sports Council to Yorkshire county cricket club in respect of relocation from Headingley to Wakefield. [41205]

Mr. Sproat

The Sports Council has provided advice on technical issues associated with the relocation, in particular how Yorkshire county cricket club might assess the proposals for relocation to Wakefield. The council has also reminded the club that at present lottery applications for spectator accommodation have relatively low priority; and that the development of a new ground must be seen within the context of the strategy for the development of test match cricket, which is currently being developed by the Test and County Cricket Board, and due for publication next month.
