HC Deb 17 October 1996 vol 282 c1083W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how many additional speech therapists have been recruited since 1992; [41260]

(2) how many additional speech therapists have been recruited since 1992 with the capacity to practise in the Welsh language; [41261]

(3) how many speech therapists have the ability to practise in the Welsh language. [41262]

Mr. Hague

The number of speech therapists who have been recruited is not collected centrally. The following table shows the staff in post on 30 September for each of the last four years. Due to the use of local payscales, however, there are small numbers of staff within the scientific and professional pay group who cannot be allocated to a particular occupation and these staff—some of whom may be speech therapists—are excluded from the figures. Information on the number of speech therapists who can practise in Welsh is not available.
