HC Deb 16 October 1996 vol 282 c969W
Mr. Spearing

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what estimates he has made of the capital value of(a) all motorways, (b) the trunk road network and (c) the property of Railtrack, together with the percentage of such sums payable annually to HM Treasury. [40798]

Mr. Bowis

The Highways Agency is currently undertaking a valuation of the motorway and trunk road network in England, including associated land and structures for future inclusion in its commercial accounts. Railtrack's annual report and accounts 1995–96 include a total net book value of tangible fixed assets—investment properties, stations, depots, other land and buildings, track, signalling systems, electrification, other infrastructure and plant and machinery—at 31 March 1996 of £4,554 million. No payment is made to HM Treasury specifically in relation to these assets.
