HC Deb 16 October 1996 vol 282 cc994-5W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what assessment she has made of the impact of the(a) DARE—drug abuse resistance education—and (b) other anti-drugs programmes in reducing the use of illegal drugs. [40605]

Mrs. Gillan

The 16 innovative drug education and prevention projects supported under the Department's grants for education support and training programme in 1995–96 have been independently evaluated. The Department intends to publish a booklet later this year summarising the findings. One project, in Kirklees local education authority, dealt with, among other things, an evaluation of a pilot of the DARE—drug abuse resistance education—programme.

In addition, the Office for Standards in Education is undertaking a specific study of provision for drug education in schools during this academic year. A report will be published shortly.
