HL Deb 15 October 1996 vol 574 c214WA
Lord Wedgwood

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they consider de-listing Test Match cricket from the Broadcasting Act 1996 would increase the game's revenue after 1998: and whether they consider cricket would be unfairly penalised without competition from television subscription channels.

Lord Inglewood

The inclusion of Test Match Cricket involving England among Listed events drawn up under the Broadcasting Act 1990 reflects its special status as a sporting event of national interest. The Government have made no assessment of the possible financial consequences of changing the status of Test Match cricket as a listed event.
