§ Mrs. BrowningThere are many measures in place, both nationally and in the European Community, to prevent the introduction of foot and mouth disease. More specifically, as a result of the recent outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in parts of Greece and Bulgaria, imports of cattle, pigs, sheep, goats and other biungulate species from, or transiting through, these areas have been prohibited. Imports of certain animal products from these areas are subject to strict conditions of trade designed to eliminate the risk of transmission of the disease.
