To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many children died from sudden infant death syndrome in(a) 1994–95, (b) 1995–96 and (c) 1996–97. [4184]

Statistics on sudden infant death syndrome are collected by calendar year. In 1994, 454 children died of sudden infant death syndrome and in 1995, the latest year for which figures are available, 398 children died.Source: Office for National Statistics Monitor DH3 96/2.
