HC Deb 25 November 1996 vol 286 c53W
18. Mr. French

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what measures are being taken to reduce road accidents. [4022]

Mr. Bowis

Since the early 1980s, we reduced road deaths by 35 per cent. and serious road injuries by 39 per cent. We are promoting a variety of measures to reduce accidents further, such as red light and speed enforcement cameras, 20 mph zones and speed reducing road engineering measures.

Alongside these we have major publicity campaign on drink-driving and inappropriate speed.
