HC Deb 25 November 1996 vol 286 cc51-2W
Mrs. Clwyd

To ask the Chairman of the Catering Committee what representations the Committee has received on the new refreshment facilities in the House. [4034]

Sir Colin Shepherd

The Committee has received no representations. I have received one written representation, and noted verbal comments from several hon. Members. I have also examined comments in the suggestions book in the Members' Tea Room, including three from the hon. Lady, which is the only altered refreshment facility presently operating.

When the full service in the Tea Room is available and the Terrace Cafeteria opens, following the kitchens becoming operational, the Committee will keep the changes made under careful review.

Mr. Flynn

To ask the Chairman of the Catering Committee when, and by whom, the decisions were taken on the cost and details of the refurbishment of the Members' Tea Room and Strangers' Cafeteria. [6044]

Sir Colin Shepherd

The decision on the principle and the cost of the proposed refurbishments of the Members' Tea Room and the former Strangers' Cafeteria was taken by the House on 12 July 1994,Official Report, columns 940–62, when it approved the Catering Committee's first report of Session 1993–94.

Details of subsequent decisions taken to refine the principle of the refurbishments are available in the Committee's minutes of proceedings from Sessions 1994–95 and 1995–96.
