HC Deb 25 November 1996 vol 286 c59W
Mrs. Dunwoody

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when the equipment at the West Drayton air traffic control centre was last replaced. [5108]

Mr. Bowis

Equipment at the West Drayton ATC centre has been regularly updated over the years since the centre was established in the 1970s. For example, the main flight data processing system was replaced in 1990 and there have been further component upgrades since then. All equipment is subject to safety case approval by the safety regulation group.

Mrs. Dunwoody

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the dates and outcome of reviews undertaken on the effectiveness of the air traffic control centre at West Drayton. [5106]

Mr. Bowis

The West Drayton centre is constantly under review. It is subject to a twice-yearly unit safety audit by the safety regulation group and the British Standards Institute has just completed an assessment of the centre and will be recommending that the centre receives IS09001 accreditation, the first major ATC centre to receive such an accolade in the world.
