To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how much his Department spent on enforcement of European fisheries rules in the last available year. [3741]

Mr. Baldry

In 1995–96 the Ministry spent some £11 million on monitoring and enforcement of the common fisheries policy on land, at sea and by aerial surveillance.
