To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many members of the armed forces have died in each of the last five years. [4422]

This is a matter for the Defence Analytical Services Agency. I have asked the chief executive to write to the hon. Member.

Letter from Paul Altobell to Dr. David Clark, dated 15 November 1996: I have been asked to reply to your question to the Secretary of State for Defence about the number of service personnel who have died since 1991 as this matter falls within my area of responsibility as Chief Executive of Defence Analytical Services Agency. The number of tri-service deaths (including Gurkhas) reported to DASA as at 13 November 1996 is as follows:
