To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many staff, fulfilling what functions and at what cost, are employed in the Department of Education in direct funding and contact with schools. [1792]

The Department of Education employs 25.41 staff in both direct funding and contact with schools, at a cost of £484,331 per annum—current rates. Collectively, these staff perform the following functions: Advising voluntary grammar and grant-maintained integrated schools on procedures and requirements relating to school meals provision and processing grant claims in respect of expenditure incurred by these schools in providing this service. Policy/resourcing/payment of grants/guidance on all financial and audit matters relating to the voluntary grammar and grant-maintained integrated school sectors. Planning and approval of capital schemes and the payment of appropriate grants in relation to voluntary grammar, grant-maintained integrated and maintained schools. 1 full-time equivalent
