HC Deb 05 November 1996 vol 284 c488W
Mr. Morley

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) if he will take steps to set up a trial scheme with a view to replacing current quarantine regulations with a passport for pets system; [2366]

(2) if he will make guide, hearing and appropriate police and customs dogs exempt from current quarantine regulation subject to the microchip identification, vaccination, and blood testing in a passport for pets system. [2367]

Mrs. Browning

[holding answer 4 November 1996]Last year, in reply to the Agriculture Committee, the Government said that they would continue to monitor our current quarantine regulations with a view to replacing them if alternatives offering the same degree of protection became available.

We are now looking at the matter, taking account of the most recent information. If new moves are decided upon an announcement will be made.
