HC Deb 05 November 1996 vol 284 c490W
Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received on the proposed levels of hill livestock compensatory allowances for 1996–97; and if he will make a statement. [1856]

Mr. Jonathan Evans

My right hon. Friend and I have received representations from individual farmers, industry bodies and Members of Parliament. The farming unions in particular have made detailed representations, including expressing appreciation of the early announcement that across the UK there would be an additional £60 million for cattle payments in 1997. We are now considering, with Ministers from all the agriculture departments, the representations that we have received before making final decisions on rate levels for 1997.
