To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how much his Department spent on(a) advertising, (b) public relations and (c) entertainment in each of the last five financial years. [1267]

The information requested about advertising and official hospitality is provided in the following table. The Home Office does not spend money on public relations. The communication directorate is responsible for providing information about my Department's policies and activities to the public and the media; providing information and advice to the public about their rights and obligations, and the protection of themselves and their property, for example; advice on fire safety and crime prevention, and of the need to register to vote. It achieves this through a wide range of communications means including news releases; answering the media's and the public inquiries; information campaigns; briefings; exhibitions; publications; and electronic publishing.
