Mrs. Liddell

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what notification he has received in respect of pre-school providers that have gone out of business as a result of competition from other providers in the pilot areas of the nursery voucher scheme. [1825]

Mr. Robertson

[holding answer 1 November 1996]: None.

Mrs. Liddell

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what proportion of the vouchers that have been redeemed to date, have been redeemed in(a) the public, (b) the private and (c) the voluntary sector. [1829]

Mr. Robertson

[holding answer 1 November 1996]: Of the vouchers for which claims had been paid by 25 October, 61 per cent. had been used in the public sector, 13 per cent. in the private sector and 26 per cent. in the voluntary sector. A number of claims had not yet been made, and these proportions will change as outstanding vouchers are submitted.

Mrs. Liddell

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many(a) parents and (b) eligible children in each of the pilot areas of the nursery voucher scheme have not taken up the entitlement to apply for a voucher. [1824]
